Many treatment options exist for the various causes of urinary incontinence. An effective procedure for patients with stress incontinence is a transobturator midurethral suspension. The procedure entails placing a small strip of synthetic mesh below the urethra inside a small incision in the vagina. The sling acts as a hammock for the urethra to rest on when coughing or sneezing. The incontinence is cured in 80-95% of patients. The procedure is generally performed in an outpatient basis and post operative discomfort is mild and patients can go back to work within 1-3 days.
